Dentistry
Having your pet’s teeth cleaned regularly improves their overall health and allows for frequent full oral exams. Our dental procedures are performed by the Veterinarian. We provide complete ultrasonic scaling and polishing as well as extraction services as needed including proper pain management. Radiographic dental assessments are provided when needed.
Proper dental care and check-ups are essential to the overall health of your pet. Just as in humans, liver, kidney, and heart disease can many times be traced back to dental disease. Wellbeing, attitude, and comfort can be improved greatly with proper dental care.
Salt River Animal Hospital provides a free dental assessment for your pet. This assessment often will lead to the prescription of antibiotics prior to a scheduled cleaning visit. In moderate to severe cases, beginning antibiotics prior to your pet’s cleaning visit allows your pet to be protected systemically when dealing with dental infections.
Salt River Animal Hospital utilizes a customized sedation during your pet’s teeth cleaning which is reversible, and in combination with local anesthetics, allows the use of less general anesthesia. This combination results in a quick pain-free recovery allowing your pet to go home the same day awake and feeling good.

Pain Management
Many pets are dealing with pain in one form or another. The signs can often be difficult to see. Pain may appear to be a lack of activity or a decrease in certain behavior previously done, such as going up and down stairs or jumping on the bed or couch. Active pets may still be in pain and require an exam to pick up on more subtle signs. Often pain can be written off as “old age” or bad behavior. Pain can appear as inappropriate urination or other unwanted behaviors. Pain may also include severe dental disease (tooth pain).
Salt River is dedicated to a multi-modal approach to pain management. It is well accepted that pain when dealt with by different methods, including varied medications, exercise, massage therapy, etc. can be managed much more efficiently. We offer a full assessment and multi modal therapeutic approach to pain management. This can be accomplished by using combinations of medications and therapeutic techniques that will greatly improve your pet’s quality of life and increase their activity.

Besides providing assessments and consultations on weight management, Salt River Animal Hospital also provides a full range of prescription diets to help your pet achieve and maintain an ideal weight.
Acupuncture
We are proud to offer many aspects of TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine). Acupuncture is a painless treatment technique that has usefulness for many diseases and conditions, including arthritis and internal medicine issues.
The mechanisms of Acupuncture are wonderfully complex. The benefits, however, are easy to see. This wonderful ancient medical technique allows your pet’s own body to help itself. Acupuncture releases stagnant Chi (energy) to allow overall body wellness. It also allows your pet’s body to release endorphins or natural pain managing elements to either manage some conditions solely or to enhance Western modalities.
Therapeutic Laser
Therapeutic laser is a non painful effective method for treatment of any inflammatory process, including arthritis, spinal issues, and wounds. It is also incorporated in pain management and decreases the time necessary for post op healing. Therapeutic laser utilizes light in the infrared spectrum and can be targeted to any specific area. This light spectrum helps the body release it’s own natural pain management chemicals and anti-inflammatory components. In your presence, your pet will experience a warm soothing sensation that is specifically tailored to their needs.
