Why the Name Change?

For decades, we’ve been proud to serve the pets and families of our region as Salt River Animal Hospital. However, we felt it was time for a name that better reflects the comprehensive services we provide and our deep connection to the community. Salt River Animal Hospital signifies our growth and dedication to caring for all animals, while staying true to the legacy we’ve built over the years.

A New Look to Match Our Commitment

If you’ve driven by recently, you’ve probably noticed some changes to our building. Our updated exterior and refreshed interior are designed to create a welcoming and modern space for you and your pets.

• State-of-the-Art Equipment: We’ve invested in advanced technology to continue offering the highest level of care for your furry companions. Recently, we have added In House Chemistry and CBC Analyzers, Digital Radiology, and Ultrasonography to maximize ability to diagnose and treat your pet’s health needs.
• Enhanced Comfort: Our waiting areas have been updated to make your visits as stress-free as possible for both you and your pets with the addition of a new comfy exam room.

While our name and look have changed, our team remains the same. The dedicated veterinarian and staff you’ve come to know and trust are still here, ready to provide the compassionate, personalized care your pets deserve.

• Experienced Team: Many of our staff members have been with us for years, building lasting relationships with our clients and their pets.

Dr. Dan

Dr. Bension DVM, CVA, has been practicing for 25 years and has experience with a wide range of species, including companion, exotics and large animals. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tuskegee School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. He practiced nearly five years in Louisville and will be celebrating 22 years at Salt River Animal Hospital this year. He additionally studied and obtained a degree in Veterinary Acupuncture (CVA). Dr. Bension was born in St. Petersburg, Florida, and then raised in Louisville, KY, graduated from Ballard High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Louisville (Major Philosophy, Minor History).  Dr. Bension has a wide range of experience in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and alternative therapies including acupuncture and therapeutic laser.

Theresa loves Charlie

Theresa has been with Salt River Animal Hospital for over 14 years. She is a
Registered Nurse with over 30 years at Norton Healthcare. She retired in 2020 and came full-time at SRAH. She feels
that her medical knowledge and experience plus her love for animals is a perfect fit.
She was raised in Louisville, graduated from Assumption High School, and has a
bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Louisville.

Grace and Nova

Grace, Veterinary Assistant extraordinaire, is dedicated to the care of animals at Salt River Animal Hospital. In her spare time, she also volunteers taking care of wildlife as she pursues her degree in veterinary medicine.

• Community Focus: We remain committed to being an active part of the community, supporting the Spencer County Chamber, Spencer County Schools, Habitat for Humanity, including other local events, and partnering with pet owners to ensure their animals live happy, healthy lives.
